SCHOOL OF ROD

WAHRA’s “How to Build a Hot Rod” seminar proves the future of hot rodding in the west is looking pretty healthy.

One question regularly asked around the hot rod scene is, “Where’s the next generation coming from?” If the Western Australian Hot Rod Association’s recent “How to Build a Hot Rod” seminar is anything to go by, they’re already here. More than 150 people turned up, from those with an idea for their first build to others already knee-deep in projects.

The WAHRA Technical Team was joined by respected Western Australian hot rod builders and parts suppliers, sharing decades of hard-earned experience. Topics ranged from chassis construction and engineering requirements to registration, body selection and the inevitable challenges of a build. Most importantly, experienced rodders were happy to explain what works, what doesn’t and how newcomers can avoid expensive mistakes.

The WAHRA Membership Team was kept busy welcoming new members too, adding to the genuine buzz surrounding the day. Seeing more than 150 people spend their Saturday learning about building hot rods — or helping others build theirs — is an encouraging sign. If the seminar is any indication, there are plenty more hot rods waiting to be built across Western Australia, and plenty of people keen to build them.
