FUNNY CAR LEGEND JOHN FORCE RETIRES
16-Time Funny Car Champion and holder of more records than any driver in NHRA history, John Force has announced his retirement from racing, following a serious crash more than a year ago from which he remains under doctor’s care.
“I said that I’m going to stay in the car until my race car gets me, and I always meant that,” he said. “I’ve beat this body up for 65 years of racing, and I’ve pretty much had enough. I won’t say that I won’t ever get in a car again, maybe to start it up or do a burnout…”
Force holds a special place in the heart of Aussie enthusiasts from his 1975 tour with Gary Densham, the very first year he started racing professionally.
“My big break came in Australia, but I couldn’t save myself from a tide of indignities… I was so terrible!” he stated in an interview in 2013.
Brittany Force, Austin Prock and Jack Beckman continue to drive for John Force Racing.
