WILD ABOUT WILLYS!
Willys fans are heading for Mildura this September, with the 5th Australian Willys Nationals promising four days devoted to one of hot rodding’s most distinctive marques.
Running September 11–14, the Nationals are open to all Willys vehicles through to 1966, including Jeeps and Wagons, whether original, restored or hot rodded. But for us, it’s the hot rods that will really get the pulse racing.
Few names are more closely linked with the wild side of hot rodding than Willys. Their compact bodies and tough looks made them natural candidates for everything from traditional street rods to blown, tyre-frying gassers, and the Mildura gathering should bring together a colourful selection from around the country.
Based at NRMA Mildura Riverside Holiday Park, the weekend combines plenty of socialising with cruising and attractions, food and fun, an evening restaurant meal and the public Show ’n’ Shine. There’ll also be plenty of awards handed out, although we reckon simply spending a weekend surrounded by hot-rodded Willys is already a pretty decent prize.
