DESERT CITY RODDERS’ GOANNA RUN
The Desert City Rodders are very thankful to anyone who attends their annual Goanna Run, after all, it’s a long way! Based in Mildura, it’s around a six-hour haul from Melbourne, or close to five hours from Adelaide, so depending on your starting point, you’re well and truly ready for a sip once you arrive. Fortunately, the host club is ready to accommodate, with hot food and cold bevvys for the Friday night meet and greet.
The real action gets underway on Saturday morning with an observation run which ends at an undisclosed location for lunch, followed by a big Saturday night out as Mildura’s city centre is shut down for the night for an entrants-only street show under lights, with music, food, and most of Mildura’s admiring locals. Number one tip – book your chosen restaurant ahead!
Sunday is show day as the cool crowd gathers again, this time on the riverfront for a free entrants breakfast, and ultimately farewells for most of the out-of-towners. There’s a late-afternoon assembly for the hangers-on at a local hotel; after that, it’s sayonara for another year.
The club takes great pride in catering to the weekend; this, along with the promise of reconnecting with distant friends and discovering something new, keeps the regulars and rookies returning each year. Entries are now open for 2025; the dates are October 24-25-26.
