There’s been some serious changes within the Victorian Hot Rod Association and the new committee are keen to relaunch the annual Victorian Hot Rod Show in 2018 with a fresh vibe and a bunch of new attractions.
When it comes to hot rod history in Australia, no organisation or event can boast a heritage to rival that of the Victorian Hot Rod Show. It’s been the unveiling place of hundreds of Australia’s most significant vehicles and been responsible for enticing thousands of enthusiasts into the old car hobby, as builders, buyers and supporters of the hot rod and custom car movement.
The 2018 event will represent the 53rd running of this historic show, to be celebrated over the weekend of January 26-28 at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. Among the top awards this year is an all expenses paid trip to the New Zealand Beach Hop in March, not to mention thousands more in trophies and prizes.
The new kid zone will include a colouring comp, while local good guys ‘Lets Go Cruisin’ will converge in force on Saturday with a massive outdoor car display. The show will also spotlight 60 years of drag racing, assembling a collection of historic race cars, drivers and crew who raced in those early years, as far back as Riverside Dragway in 1962.
Applications are open now for feature vehicles, as well as single day entries for both Saturday and Sunday. Visit www.hotrod.com.au and follow the links.
