Ben Hewlett has set in motion a one time event to cater for fans of the iconic Aussie movie, Running on Empty. The ‘Running on Empty Festival’ is scheduled for the last weekend in October in 2018 at Cobar, NSW, coinciding with the annual Miner’s Ghost Festival. Activities will include a show and shine, street cruise and a BBQ at Canbelego where Reb’s garage once stood. Ben has also been liaising with members of the cast and production crew and those who supplied cars for the movie.
Of course the announcement of the event brings back fond memories of arguably one of the most accurate replicas of that famous 1957 Chevy, Mark McLean’s ‘BLOWN57’ which has performance to back up its bad ass looks. How does mid 10s at 130mph grab you! Fans should check out Gasoline Magazine #20 which was released in Summer 2015 for a full feature.
